Shawn “Loc Da’Borg” Jackson is a native of Mississippi, born in Vicksburg and raised in Philadelphia in Neshoba County. At the age of 15 he was diagnosed with Tourette Syndrome and, later into his early 20s, he became Profoundly Deaf. Shawn later became a father to a spirited son who also learned American Sign Language (ASL) as a baby as both his parents are deaf. After over a decade of not hearing, Shawn eventually came to the decision to be implanted with the Cochlear Implant, or C.I.
Now with the ability to hear again, he eventually left Mississippi to see where his talents of writing, voice acting and acting could take him in Atlanta, GA. He was snatched up as writer and then Deputy Editor of J’Adore Magazine, an internationally distributed lifestyle magazine for men and women which is based in Atlanta. He has regular columns within the magazine under “Guys and Gadgets”. Because of his affinity of all things “tech”, he acquired the nickname of “Loc”.
He has made many friendships and this eventually lead him to become involved with and take a leadership role in *ASL Inside ATL (www.aslinsideatl.com) with founder, Michelle Hope. He then struck up a partnership with Miracle-Dawn Alston and thus this venture of Da’Borg was born. A book will be forthcoming later this year about his struggles and triumphs dealing with both his Deafness and Tourette. Contact either Shawn or Ms. Alston.
